32 years ago, when I was a student at a full contact karate school here in New York City, where I live, a friend of mine asked me to make him a protective pad to wear during fighting practice, because he was afraid that he would get hit in his kidney area where he had a problem. Because I was a leatherworker at the time, I was able to make him a padded belt to protect him from getting hurt. I realized that if I expanded the idea, I could make a defensive training suit capable of receiving full power blows, without endangering the wearer. We called it the “human heavy bag” and started selling it to karate schools. It became so popular with some of their students who were police officers, that their police departments started asking me to make it for them too. That’s when I designed the #333 Police Training Suit. I incorporated two and three layers of different thicknesses and densities of foam to break the impact and shock of full contact strikes. And later, to accommodate the various self-defense training needs of law enforcement agencies, martial artists, and the growing interest from the military, I developed three protection weights – from the heavy protection of the #333 Police Training Suit to the moderate protection of the #300 Pro Trainer Suit, and lighter protection of the #99TS Tactical Suit. To allow the suit to last for many years, I fabricated it with almost indestructible materials, tied all the suit pieces together to make it easy to put on and take off, and added a bag to carry it or store it in. This is the evolution of the Fist Suit. And over the last 32 years, we’ve sold thousands of Fist Training Suits to customers all over the world.
